Is music boxing machine better than treadmill?

Is music boxing machine better than treadmill?

When it comes to getting an effective workout, two popular options are music boxing  machine🥊 and using a treadmill 🏃‍♀️. Both provide cardiovascular exercise that can help improve endurance, burn calories 🏋️‍♀️, and support weight loss goals. But is one necessarily better than the other? There are pros and cons to both music boxing and treadmill workouts to consider.

Calorie Burning Potential

One of the main reasons people exercise is to burn calories and lose or manage weight. So which burns more calories - music boxing machine or the treadmill?

On average, a 155 pound person can expect to burn around 365 calories per 30 minutes of music boxing. The fast punching motions combined with footwork, ducking, weaving, etc. add up. With the treadmill, that same 155 pound person would expect to burn 292 calories walking at 4 mph for 30 minutes. So music boxing comes out ahead for calorie burning! 🥊😃

Muscle Building Benefits

Along with a great cardio workout, music boxing also helps build up muscle. Throwing punches engages all the major muscle groups in the arms and shoulders, along with the core and legs as well. This muscle activation while training can lead to some increases in strength and muscle tone over time.

The treadmill, on the other hand, focuses mainly on cardio with very little muscle benefits. Unless you are doing high inclines or using it for hardcore sprints, walking or jogging on the treadmill does not do much for building muscle mass. Point for music boxing! 🥊💪

Overall Aerobic Activity

Both music boxing machine and the treadmill get your heart rate elevated for an extended period of time, which provides cardiovascular benefits. Whether you are bobbing and weaving or walking/running at a steady pace, you are keeping your heart and lungs working hard.

For overall aerobic training, the treadmill may provide more consistent cardio. With music boxing, there tends to be bursts of high intensity followed by lower intensity recovery during the round breaks. This can be made up for by having a longer workout though.

I’d call this one a draw – both can promote heart health and better endurance. ⚖️

Weight Loss Effectiveness

As mentioned earlier, music boxing machine just edges out the treadmill when it comes to total calories burned per workout. But are the two equal when it comes to aiding weight loss over time?

Research has shown that high intensity interval training (HIIT) can be extremely effective for weight and fat loss goals. The intense exertion followed by recovery periods helps to really rev up the metabolism. And music boxing replicates this style of HIIT training.

With steady state cardio like the treadmill, longer workouts are generally needed to match the calorie burn and metabolic boost of high intensity training.

So when it comes to dropping pounds, music boxing may be the more time efficient and effective option overall. 🏆🥊

Enjoyment Levels

Here is an important factor that varies quite a bit person to person – which activity do you actually enjoy doing? You are much more likely to stick to an exercise long term if you don’t dread doing it.

For some, music boxing training seems too intense and physically demanding. Others may find it fun and empowering. With the treadmill, some find it comforting to “zone out” and watch a show while they walk. But for others that standing in place is just painfully boring.

This one is a toss up depending on your personal preferences. But enjoying the activity certainly motivates you to keep doing it consistently! So whether it is the excitement of music boxing training or zone out comfort of the treadmill, choose what puts a smile on your face! 😊

Risk of Injury

With physical activity inevitably comes some risk of strains, sprains, and other injuries. Between music boxing machine and treadmill, is one option safer than the other though?

For the treadmill, injuries often arise from slipping on the belt or losing balance. The most common injuries are to the lower body like feet, ankles, knees, and hips. Proper stretching beforehand can help reduce injury risk.

With music boxing training machine, there is always the chance of facial cuts and bruises from sparring or pad work. There are also more upper body injuries associated with music boxing, like fractures in the hands/wrists. Using proper protective gear can help minimize damage.

I’d give a slight risk advantage to the treadmill since the belt itself poses less direct threat than an opponent’s punches! But both activities come with decent injury potential if you are not careful. 🤕

Accessibility & Cost

How easy is it to incorporate each workout into your lifestyle? You may need to consider factors like accessibility, convenience, and cost.

Treadmills can be expensive equipment to purchase outright. But most gyms have several treadmills making it easy to access. And for home use, monthly financing can offset the high upfront costs. 💸

With boxing, a full size ring and hanging bags take up a lot of space. So joining a boxing gym is often the way to go, which costs around $100-$200 per month typically. The social atmosphere at boxing gyms can provide extra motivation too! 🥊 💃

I’d give treadmills a slight edge for accessibility and costs. But some may find the energy of group boxing classes worth the monthly fees!

Variety Potential

How much variety can you get out of a music boxing training machine vs treadmill workout? Having different modes and programming keeps your training fresh and challenging.

With treadmills, most offer different speed settings and incline levels to mix it up. You can stride it out on flatter terrain or really get your heart rate up powering to the top of virtual hills. Some treadmills also offer pre-programmed interval workouts for more variation.

I’d give variety to music boxing – it offers more dynamic movement challenges session to session. 🤹‍♀️

Full Body Workout Potential

Do these workouts provide comprehensive fitness training? Or do they mainly focus on certain areas and neglect others?

As discussed earlier, music boxing training works just about every major muscle group in the body. You’ll tone and define your arms, shoulders, chest, core, glutes, and legs. Combine that muscular training with serious cardio and you have a super well-rounded workout. 💪

The treadmill mainly targets lower body endurance along with cardio. While you can hold small hand weights or swing your arms to up the upper body engagement, the main action happens from the waist down.

For a full body fitness experience, music boxing is tough to beat. Boxers build impressive physiques because every workout taxes the entire system!

Which is Better Overall?

So taking all these factors into account – calories burned, muscle building, weight loss, enjoyment, accessibility, injury risk, variety, and full body engagement – which comes out the winner?

In my opinion, music boxing takes the title for the more effective and dynamic workout option overall. Between the greater calorie burn, HIIT benefits, muscular development, variety/challenge, and full body nature of the training – it offers the more impressive fitness package. 🏆

However, treadmills still bring value to the table as well. They provide solid aerobic development, are low impact on joints, pose less risk of facial injuries, and can fit more conveniently into your daily life.

I don’t think it needs to be an either/or decision. The ideal training program would incorporate both music boxing machine and treadmill workouts. Music boxing a few days a week supplemented with some treadmill sessions makes for well-rounded fitness! 🥊 🏃‍♀️

The most important thing is that you are doing activity you enjoy on a consistent basis. Sticking with whatever routine keeps you moving is always the right choice! But if I had to declare one winner between music boxing machine and the treadmill for the best workout, the gloves get my vote! 🥊🏆
